Family Room makeover

Our next room to give a update is our family room or  we actually refer to it as Dad's living room since the boys are NOT allowed to hang out and make a mess in this one room and so far it works .

first step in any room makeover is to update the wall color as of right now it is a pale yellow color which I do believe at one point was white .

I was contacted by Dutch Boy Paints and Purdy to review some of their products the timing couldn't have been more perfect , I have never used Dutch boy paint before to be honest we have only used one brand of paint in our new house and vowed to stick with that same brand through out once Big likes a product its hard for him to try something new even if its FREE so you can guess the added stress I put in his life the day the paint arrived lol .

One Dining Table turned into two Accent Tables

So I have been hunting high and low for a good Accent table for my entry way .. I wanted it to have nice legs :)

I found this Pretty little desk on craigslist and was going to use that for my entry way .. Until I went to goodwill and found a round table For $14 ... 70% Off.

The best part was it pulled out to add a leaf leaving two perfectly half circle tables ..

Once I got home we got to work on taking it apart

it took a few minutes and then I had two tables plus some left over sliders that will soon become a pull out cabinet .

Alot of people LOVE the color and I did too but its just too dark our new living room and dining room plus my new pantry are all Bright colors .. Plus the lighting is BAD so I want to brighten it up .. Here are the paint colors Im thinking of .. which one do you like best? or any other thoughts ?

Old shelf transformation for only $1

Today we have a Guest on Get Outta my head Please everyone welcome Meegan from What Meegan makes.

I'm Meegan.  We raised 7 children, during which time I decorated wedding/reception venues for 17 years.   I get a thrill when I find an amazing deal, and turn it into something for our home or a gift. I enjoy refreshing furniture, rooms, frames, and our home. I love reading cook books, and trying a new recipes.

Hi There!!  My name is Meegan and I am over at What Meegan Makes.  I am excited to be Guest Posting here on Get Outta My Head Please.  Thank you Brooke for having me here.  You always have a fun blog to visit, and you are a GREAT bloggy friend.

I am REALLY lucky in the fact that I own quite a few pieces of furniture that were my grandparents.  This shelf is one of those pieces:

As a child, I remember Grandma's china, tea sets, and odds & ends sitting on this shelf in her dining room.  Then later in life, it hung in my Mom's home holding tea sets, and beautiful plates.    I, on the other hand decided to hang it in our bedroom.  I have been trying to refresh the colors in our home to lighter and brighter tones.  So that meant this shelf needed some refreshing as well.

I went to Home Depot to look for some paint and ended up at the "Ooops Table"  I found a can of Glidden flat whitish/creamish color for $1!!  I painted just about everything: Bookcases, frames, a clock, and anything I could.  I mean for $1, how could I go wrong?  By the time I got around to paint this shelf, I had BARELY enough left to cover it.  BUT, it was just the right amount I wanted and needed.

With a dry brush and scraping the whole can of paint, I came up with this look.  Prefect for some of our sand and shell collection, rather than china or tea sets.  The sand and shells go along with the rest of the motif in our home.

I LOVE how you can still see the wood grain through the paint.  I also sanded the edges for a worn, vintage look.

On some of the bottles I placed tags labeling where we had gathered our sand and shells. I purchased the tags from Wal-Mart.  Using my stamps I created labels.  Easy!

Doesn't she look great?  Bringing in a touch of my family's heritage and history,  along with things that I enjoy collecting.  Probably one of my favorite things to do-use vintage family pieces, then adding my own style and taste.

Dresser to Tv stand { Media Stand }

Remember the Dresser I found at a garage sale



as soon as I saw it I new it would be perfect as a Tv stand … I was inspired by Liz Marie Blog from

Her post Dresser to Shelf’s.

Here is the Process I did to get My Tv stand



I wanted to add some new legs so I cut off the bottom of the dresser





Then Added the Legs





For the shelf’s I bought a sheet of plywood for $13 at home depot and had them cut it down for me and then took some of the fabric I had gotten at Wal-Mart last year to cover them



Then after I just came in for a min to check the laundry the wind blew and my newly painted Dresser seemed ruined .. Im not a HUGE! fan of Sanding and really didn’t want to start all over .. So I put my thinking cap on and remembered that I had a ton of paint left over from the Giani Kit that I used to do the faux granite look on my bathroom countertop.

 

So I first painted the top with some leftover paint from the Teal colored walls in the boys living room



Then took some old towels and started adding the layers



The colors I used for this .. I mixed the blue with white







after it dried I used the sealer that came with the kit



Added some molding



 

After everything was dry we brought it in  .. Now sorry for the images it was a cloudy day I will take some better ones today when I get home .
