Convert a wine tumbler into a colorful flower vase

Inspired by Spring and all its hues and textures; today I'm going to show you how to convert an everyday item like a wine tumbler into a beautiful and colorful flower vase.

In this tutorial, although I'm using some inexpensive plastic wine tumblers, any plastic or crystal vase would do just fine. Besides this all you'll need is leftover paint (I just love how many things I've done with a couple of Behr paint samples), a glue gun and a brush.

The first thing to do is the outside design of the tumblers. With the glue gun I placed different sizes of glue drops and let them dry. Just remember not to burn yourself and that this type of glue dries quickly.

Materials from left to right: leftover sampler Behr paint; Martha Stewart's chalkboard paint for the outer part of the tumbler; sponge brush and glue gun.

When the glue was completely dry, I started painting the inside of each tumbler. I pour about a 1/4 cup of paint and started twisting and turning until the inside was completely cover. To help eliminate any leftover paint inside the tumbler, I place it upside down on top of an empty can. After this I place the vase on its side in front of a fan to help with the drying time.

When the inside of each tumbler was completely dry, I started painting the outside with the Martha Stewart's chalkboard paint. I used this paint because when dry, the resulting effect is a matte rustic one (kind like ceramic) which I just love. I gave each piece three coats of paint.

Here is the final result. As always, with a little paint, you can do tons of things.

Porcelaine pen markers can be found at Michael's and Hobby Lobby for $4ish. Make sure to shake it well, then "pump" the ink into the tip by pushing it against a piece of paper. (This mug was from Dollar Tree.)
(Keep a wet napkin and wet Q-tip on hand.) Outline the handle of the mug first.
Draw the other side of the heart, using the handle-side as a guide for symmetry. If you make a mistake, wipe it off with the wet napkin right away and wipe dry. (The marker comes off easily when wet.) Once you have the outline of the heart, draw the lines in thicker. Let dry...only takes a minute.
Write in 'i carry your heart' with a little heart. Use the wet Q-tip if you make a mistake and need to rewrite.

The cup is dishwasher-safe in 72 hours.

The words are from one of my favorites poems my E.E. Cummings - "I carry your heart in my heart." It seemed appropriate for a warm cup of coffee and a Friday to reflect on the week. :) Enjoy your weekend!

Valentines Day Table Center Piece (wedding flowers)

When I was planning My wedding in 2003 I found these Flowers at Walmart ... they were perfect for me and right inline with the budget so I picked the main bouquet up and some stem ones to make the bridal party flowers we took some Purple flowers and added them into them with some baby's breathe ... Of course at the time I would have LOVED beautiful fresh "real" flowers but it just wasn't in the budget at the time , I'm so glad I didn't since now I have these all as a reminder of a Great day in my life.

Its time to change up the Center Piece so I went to find supplies ... I have these 3 balls that came in this Awesome Bowl but.... Preston broke that so I went looking for something to put them in when I came across this basket and next to it was this dark grass from the dollar store ( Im not sure what it called) and thought it would be a cute Bird's Nest and the balls could represent my 3 little's :) ..

Then I took my Bouquet, the "Nest, and I also used the old bottle from New Years eve and stuck my bridesmaid flowers in that .

Last little touch was Bringing some RED love in ... I usually buy stuff from the dollar store and I don't use it for months lol .. these Red fake flowers were from last summer but it makes it complete I think ..

So Finishing Line .... I m lucky to be reminded daily of the BEST life choice I made on 11-14-03 <3

#1 I decorated my tree for under $10 ( Crinkled Streamers)

I'm not Cheap but I would rather call it Thrifty :) I could Give a price to everything I have for decor in my house and I would be surprised if anything! is over $10 that I have bought I say that because I still have a few things from our wedding that were pretty expensive if I would have known that people would Actually buy me the things on my registry I would have added some really nice fine china to hide away until the boys are 18 and moved out then display them :) , anyways I'm getting of topic here so here is the first post for my Christmas tree decor.

Crinkled Streamers are Perfect for Garland and I only used 1 roll so that was only .50

below is a step by step on how I did it .

Homemade Christmas Ornaments ( Salt, Flour and water)

Its that Time of the year for us to make our Dough Ornaments , We have been making these for about 5 years .( I will try ad find pictures from previous years)

It's a great way to change up your look year to year and a great way to get the kiddo's involved but the biggest bonus is it saves alot of money :)

It's super Easy to do

How to make salt dough ornaments

you will need

4 cups of flour
1 1/2 Cups warm water
1 cup salt
rolling pin
cookie cutters
cookie sheets
Wire Hangers ( Found mine at the dollar store )

I like to dissolve the salt in the warm water for just a min , then add the flour and knead for about 15 mins ( it helps to get hands a little damp if it needed)

Rub some flour on the surface you plan to roll it out on to help it from sticking .

roll it out about 1/4"

Cut out the shapes you want , you can also use a knife to cut shapes if you don't have cutters ( the owl and small start are from the boys play dough stash )

Make sure to Poke a hole in where you want the hanger to go ( I use a ink pen)

I got about 35 out of this batch

Pre-Heat Oven to 250 and cook for about 30 mins

I let them sit for about 3 hours to cool before painting

( You can also let them air dry but this can take upto 3 days )

Now for the FUN! part Create!

Hmmm...... I actually took his paint and rubbed it all over his face! ( oh my Correction! I meant HE not I, I would NOT do that lol )

it's so much fun! I just love it

Re-Purpose - Chalk Board Labels

Today is My first post on Re purpose today I'm going to use old address labels and contact paper to make chalk board labels .

I had this roll of address labels from our old house that I just couldn't throw away I knew I would find something to use them for well after a year I found it. lol "Chalk Board Labels" I also used this idea on some contact paper I had laying around.

At Walmart I found this chalkboard paint for .75 foam brush I had and of course the labels and contact paper I had so this is pretty easy I'll let the pictures do the talking .
